Meet Our Doctors

Drs. King and McCune

 Suzanne R. King, D.D.S.

Dr. King is a native of Atlanta, having graduated from the Westminster Schools. She attended Dartmouth College and Emory University and was accepted into Emory University Dental School after only three years of college.  She was the first female accepted into the orthodontic department at Emory University and was the first female orthodontist in the state of Georgia. She has been in private practice in Buckhead for over 30 years.

Dr. King married her high school sweetheart, Thad King, also an Atlanta native, who graduated from the Lovett School.  They have four grown children, and love being empty nesters.  They have six grandchildren, but are convinced that they don't look old enough for that!

Dr. King focuses on giving back to her local community as well as the world.  Locally, she is heavily involved with treating members of the Lost Boys of Sudan and she volunteers at the Good Samaritan Dental Clinic.  She is active with the Christian Medical and Dental Association and travels abroad with them treating people who never have a chance to see a dentist.

Dr. King is also involved with Nkoma hospital in Malawi, Africa where she is helping to establish a dental clinic and program so that foreign dentists can not only help in the treatment of the local people, but can train the local people to care for their own dental needs.

Virginia K. McCune, D.M.D.

Dr. McCune is excited to be a part of her mother’s orthodontic practice. She practically grew up in the office between having two sets of braces herself and working there during the summers while she was in school. Dr.King and Dr. McCune are the first mother/daughter partnership in Georgia and one of only a handful in the nation.

Dr. McCune graduated from the Westminster Schools and Dartmouth College and went to dental school at the Medical College of Georgia. She graduated at the top of her class from MCG and was one of only two seniors who were elected to both OKU, the national dental academic society, and AUPhi, the national dental service society that acknowledges service and leadership. She completed her orthodontic residency training at the Medical College of Georgia in December, 2010. In 2011, she pursued board certification and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Dr. McCune is married to Dave McCune, who she met when they were students together at Dartmouth. Dave graduated from Columbia International University in December, 2010 with a Masters in Divinity. Dave has been involved in youth ministry since college and is currently a math teacher at Whitefield Academy. They are the proud parents of Hannah, who was born in October 2009 James, who was born in June 2012, Harper, who was born in April 2014, and Molly who was born April 2016.

Similar to her mother, Dr. McCune is very involved in dental missions. She participated in mission trips every year in dental school, ultimately leading forty people to Bulgaria her senior year. She is fluent in French and Spanish, which has helped tremendously as she can communicate with patients around the world.

Dr. King and Dr. McCune are members of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the Georgia Association of Orthodontists, and the American Dental Association. They strive for excellence in the office and are committed to bringing you the very best in orthodontics. They look forward to meeting you!
